FAQ's
Do you accept my insurance?
Altus Performance PT is considered “out-of-network”. This allows us to treat the human in front of us and not the diagnostic code. Unfortunately, the current in-network model of physical therapy does not allow for the individual attention and detailed treatment that is provided at Altus. Here you will receive the high end, one-on-one services that you deserve.
We do accept flexible spending accounts (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA).
As a courtesy, we can provide you with a receipt (superbill) to submit to your insurance company. This may allow you to recover a percentage of the upfront cost (typically 60-80%) from your insurance company, depending on your individual insurance plan.
What does out-of-network, cash-based mean?
Cash-based means that we are out of network with all insurance companies and do not directly bill through insurance.
However, you may be eligible for reimbursement directly from your insurance company.
Our patients pay us directly for each visit. This allows us to provide 60 minute 1-on-1 treatment sessions that are highly personalized and focused on patient goals without being dictated by insurance rules and regulations.
What is the benefit of being out-of-network, cash-based?
Insurance companies are continuing to reduce reimbursement rates and dictating how clinicians treat patients. Due to this decline in reimbursement, many in-network clinics are forced to treat multiple patients at the same time and to lower their standards for patient care in order to make ends meet. Patients are not able to receive the individualized care they need and oftentimes feel that their visits are rushed or of lower quality. With a cash-based/out of network practice we are able to treat our patients in a way that is best for THEM since our care is not dictated by insurance companies. This allows us to provide the highest quality care for all of our patients with 1-on-1 visits with our doctors, every visit. This increase in quality results in patients getting better faster than traditional in-network clinics.
Do I need a doctor’s referral to be seen?
You do not! Florida’s Direct Access law allows patients to see a physical therapist without a referral for up to 30 days. The advanced training in receiving a doctorate allows us to diagnose and treat based on impairments but also the knowledge to refer to a licensed medical practitioner if the condition lies outside their scope of physical therapy practice.
Do you only work with high-performance athletes?
Nope, we work with everyone! Our goal is to help all active adults stay healthy and build resiliency.
What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a therapeutic technique requiring additional post-graduate training. The clinician inserts thin, sterile needles into specific points in muscles to alleviate pain and improve muscle function by stimulating a healing response, with the “dry” referring to the fact that no medication is injected into the needle site; it is commonly used by physical therapists to treat musculoskeletal pain and movement issues.
Where are you located?
We are in a shared space with Soul Need and Yoga Shed at 216 N Woodland Blvd in downtown DeLand, between DeLand Bagel and Groovy Records. There is a free public parking lot at the rear of the building (west of Woodland), accessible from W Church St. The best option is to enter through the back door of the building.
What is your cancellation and no show policy?
Please provide 24 hour notice if you need to cancel your appointment. For cancellations under 24 hours there will be a fee. No-show appointments will be charged the full price of the service. Extenuating circumstances and special situations will be reviewed on an individual basis.
What should I expect for my first visit?
Your first visit will include a thorough full body evaluation, movement assessment, hands on treatment and education for you to gain a better understanding of your body and how you move in order to get a better understanding of you as a person and your personal goals.
What should I expect at follow up visits?
Follow up appointments will be based on findings during your initial evaluation and on an as-needed basis. Because of our cash model, we are awarded the flexibility to cater to your individual needs and goals. Sessions will include a combination of hands-on body work, functional exercises, and strategies for independent management. Most sessions are 1x a week with gradually increasing time between additional follow ups, based on your goals, recovery, and program adherence.
